Not recommended

A 4G LTE connector with battery backup that links access control and shooter detection systems to Alarm.com for Business. Infrastructure for the commercial platform, not a device in its own right.

Selora does not recommend this device

A cellular signalling device for the Alarm.com platform. It adds a monitoring path rather than a local interface, so it exposes nothing for Home Assistant to read or control.

These exist to get alarm signals to a monitoring centre, which is a different job from automation and a reasonable one. They are listed so the range is complete. The thing to understand on a takeover is that fitting one does not bring the panel's sensors into Home Assistant: it brings them to Alarm.com. Getting the zones locally needs an interface to the panel itself.

Install instead
  • Home Assistant with local sensors, for automation and notification
  • A monitored panel of the client's choosing, kept deliberately separate from the automation system
ha-alarmdotcom: what the maintained Alarm.com integration does and does not cover

A small cellular connector with a lithium-ion backup battery, running on 5VDC, that gives Alarm.com’s access control and gunshot detection hardware a path to the business cloud independent of the site’s internet.

The design intent is sound for life safety work. A system meant to report an incident should not be taken off the air by the same event that cut the building’s uplink, and a battery-backed cellular path is the standard answer.

It is platform plumbing. It carries no sensors and exposes no local interface, so there is nothing for Home Assistant to integrate even in principle.

Hardware availability

Alarm.com hardware is sold and provisioned through authorized dealers, and the video, access control and business products also need the matching Alarm.com service plan on top of the hardware. The Z-Wave devices are the exception: they carry no service dependency once they are out of the panel’s network, and they turn up on the resale market at a fraction of dealer pricing.
