A Z-Wave Plus S2 remote sensor reporting both temperature and humidity, sold to average a room against an Alarm.com thermostat. In Home Assistant it is simply another Z-Wave sensor, usable by any automation rather than only by the thermostat it was sold with.
On the Alarm.com platform this exists to feed a T40K-HD or T25 so the thermostat balances against the room you actually occupy rather than the hallway it is screwed to. That averaging is done in Alarm.com’s cloud, so it does not survive the move to Home Assistant.
What does survive is more useful. Included in Z-Wave JS it reports temperature and humidity as ordinary sensors, so any automation can read them, not just the thermostat, and the averaging becomes a Home Assistant template or a min/max helper you control. Pair a few around a zone and the logic is yours rather than the vendor’s. The humidity reading comes free and is the one most installs forget they wanted, for damp rooms and for dehumidifier control.
Powered by a CR2450 cell rated around five years, and it sleeps, so it will not repeat. Its reporting interval governs how fresh the reading is; expect minutes, not seconds, and do not build a fast control loop on it.
