It confirms a shot by requiring both an acoustic signature and an infrared muzzle flash, which is how it reaches a claimed accuracy above 99% and keeps false alarms down. It covers roughly 2,500 square feet and does not need line of sight, and it flush or surface mounts on wall or ceiling.
It runs a built-in self test of both its acoustic and infrared paths and sends a continuous heartbeat, which is what you want from something that must work on the one day it is needed.

Like the fire communicator, this is regulated-adjacent life safety equipment where a closed, supervised path is the correct design and a general-purpose automation system has no business inside it. It is in the catalogue so that an installer who meets one knows what it is and leaves it alone.
