The chime pairs only with Alarm.com doorbells over Alarm.com's own path, so Home Assistant can neither see the press that rings it nor ring it from an automation.
Announcing a door press is one of the things a local system does best, routing it to speakers, lights, or a phone depending on who is home and what time it is. A chime that answers exactly one vendor's doorbell and nothing else forecloses all of that. A local doorbell hands Home Assistant the press event, and any speaker or media player in the house becomes the chime.

The previous generation of the chime and extender combination, doing the same two jobs as the ADC-W115C for Alarm.com doorbells and cameras. Like the other ADC access points it bridges rather than routes, so it does not hand out a DHCP range of its own.
Specify the W115C for new work. Either way the chime only answers Alarm.com doorbells, so it has no role in a Home Assistant install.
