ecobee's entry Wi-Fi thermostat for simpler HVAC systems, with SmartSensor support. Home Assistant controls it locally through the HomeKit Device integration.
Pair the thermostat straight to Home Assistant with the HomeKit Device integration, using its HomeKit setup code: control stays on the local network, with no ecobee account in between. Home Assistant gets the thermostat with its mode and setpoints, plus temperature and humidity. Each SmartSensor paired to it shows up as its own device with temperature and occupancy.
HomeKit pairing is exclusive, so skip Apple Home during setup or remove the thermostat from it first. The ecobee integration is the cloud alternative: since Home Assistant 2026.3 it signs in with the ecobee account and no longer needs a developer API key.
Handles two cooling stages and one heating stage, or two heating stages and one cooling stage, but not both. Check a multistage system against ecobee’s compatibility checker, or fit the Enhanced. Homes without a C wire need the Power Extender Kit, sold separately.
