Pair the thermostat straight to Home Assistant with the HomeKit Device integration, using its HomeKit setup code: control stays on the local network, with no ecobee account in between. Home Assistant gets the thermostat with its mode and setpoints, plus temperature, humidity, and occupancy. Each paired SmartSensor shows up as its own device with temperature and occupancy.
HomeKit pairing is exclusive, so skip Apple Home during setup or remove the thermostat from it first. The ecobee integration is the cloud alternative: since Home Assistant 2026.3 it signs in with the ecobee account and no longer needs a developer API key.
Runs most 24VAC systems, up to two stages of heat and cool, or a heat pump with two stages of auxiliary heat. The Power Extender Kit in the box covers homes without a C wire.
