Connect ZWA-2

Selora recommended

Connect ZWA-2 is the first party Z-Wave 800 radio for Home Assistant, with Z-Wave Long Range alongside the usual mesh. The full height antenna and base are tuned for the band, so range comes from the hardware, not from repeaters.

Silicon Labs ZG23 800 series radio with an ESP32-S3 USB to serial bridge, covering S2, SmartStart, Z-Wave Plus and Z-Wave Plus V2. The 3.38 dBi omnidirectional antenna tunes 860 to 930MHz and the region is set from the Home Assistant location, so the US runs 908.42 and 916MHz mesh with 912 and 920MHz Long Range, Europe 868.4 and 869.85MHz with 864 and 866MHz Long Range, and Australia 919.8 and 921.4MHz. A mesh network and a Long Range network can run at the same time on separate networks, which is the way to cover an outbuilding or a gate without hanging repeaters along the driveway; Long Range is North America and Europe only and the device list is still filling in, so design the mesh first and put Long Range where it earns its place. Home Assistant drives it through Z-Wave JS with wizards for a new network, for pairing and for migrating off another controller, plus over the air firmware for the adapter and one click updates for the devices behind it. It is 125 by 125 by 315mm and 350g on a weighted base, USB-C at 5V 1A with a 1.5m cable, and an accelerometer checks it is standing upright, so leave it vertical on a shelf rather than laying it in the rack.
