The SCN-IP000.03 is MDT's KNX IP interface: a two module DIN rail device, powered from the bus, that gives Home Assistant a KNXnet/IP tunnel onto the KNX line. Four simultaneous tunnels mean ETS and Home Assistant can hold connections at the same time, with KNX IP Secure and KNX Data Secure available from ETS 5.7.
Two module (2 SU) MDRC housing, powered entirely from the KNX bus at under 0.8W, so no separate supply is needed in the board. Four simultaneous KNXnet/IP tunnelling connections is the number that matters on a Home Assistant job: Home Assistant holds one permanently, which leaves three for ETS, a visualisation, and a commissioning laptop before anything gets pushed off. It is an interface, not a router, so it tunnels onto one line and does not couple lines over IP. KNX IP Secure and KNX Data Secure are supported from ETS 5.7, and Home Assistant needs the .knxkeys keyring exported from the ETS project to join a secure installation, so export it as part of commissioning rather than going back for it later. TP-256 with long frame support keeps ETS downloads quick. Extra functions include a time server that puts date and time on the bus and encrypted email on trigger, both configured in ETS rather than in Home Assistant. Firmware is field updatable. Made in Germany with a three year warranty; the North American part number is USA-SCN-IP000.03.
Hardware availability
MDT sells through KNX wholesale rather than retail, so purchase links point at the manufacturer’s product pages and the model is ordered from a KNX distributor. North American orders use the USA- prefixed part numbers, which are the same hardware. Every MDT device is commissioned in ETS before Home Assistant sees anything, so the ETS project file is part of the deliverable on an MDT job, not an optional extra.
