The SCN-IP100.03 is MDT's KNX IP router: the same two module bus powered hardware as its IP interface, plus line and area coupling over IP multicast. Home Assistant can tunnel through it like any interface, or join the bus by routing, which is the connection type that scales past a single line.
Two module (2 SU) MDRC housing, powered from the KNX bus with no external supply, with an integrated bus coupling unit. The router forwards telegrams between KNX lines and areas over IP multicast, so the LAN becomes the backbone and the filter table keeps line traffic local. Alongside routing it offers four simultaneous KNXnet/IP tunnelling connections, the same as the SCN-IP000.03 interface, so one device covers both ways Home Assistant can attach. Which to pick: tunnelling is the safe default and points Home Assistant at this one device, while routing has Home Assistant listen on the multicast group (224.0.23.12:3671 by default) and needs a dummy device created in ETS at the same topology level as the routers, plus a network that actually passes IGMP between the Home Assistant host and the board. On anything with a managed switch or a VLAN boundary, tunnel first and move to routing only when the multicast path is proven. KNX IP Secure and KNX Data Secure are supported from ETS 5.7, with the .knxkeys keyring exported from ETS for Home Assistant. Time server and encrypted email functions, extended group addresses, and long frame support are configured in ETS. Made in Germany with a three year warranty; the North American part number is USA-SCN-IP100.03.
Hardware availability
MDT sells through KNX wholesale rather than retail, so purchase links point at the manufacturer’s product pages and the model is ordered from a KNX distributor. North American orders use the USA- prefixed part numbers, which are the same hardware. Every MDT device is commissioned in ETS before Home Assistant sees anything, so the ETS project file is part of the deliverable on an MDT job, not an optional extra.
