io-homecontrol
io-homecontrol is the encrypted two-way radio behind Somfy, Velux, and their partner brands. A motor on io reports its real position back to the gateway, which is what makes shading automation dependable rather than hopeful, and it is reached in Home Assistant through a gateway rather than device by device.
io-homecontrol is a shared 868 to 870 MHz radio standard used by Somfy, Velux, and a long list of window, shutter, and heating manufacturers, with 128-bit AES encryption and, most importantly for automation, two-way communication. When a gateway sends a shutter to 40 percent, the motor answers with where it actually ended up. That single property is the line between a cover entity that can be trusted in a condition and one that can only be commanded.
Strengths
- Real position feedback. Motors report their state, so Home Assistant shows a position rather than an assumption, including after someone uses a wall remote or a handset instead of the app. Worth one caveat: Home Assistant notes that some Overkiz devices do not broadcast changes on their own, and those refresh when the vendor app asks for a status update, so a given device’s state can lag even though the radio itself is two-way.
- Cross-brand by design. The same radio carries Somfy shutters, Velux roof windows, Atlantic heating, and partner equipment, so one gateway covers a mixed house.
- Encrypted and paired. Commands are authenticated and encrypted, which matters for something that physically opens a building.
- Retrofit paths exist. A wired shutter can be brought onto io with a receiver module behind the switch, or by swapping the motor, without rewiring the house.
Trade-offs
- A gateway is mandatory. Home Assistant never talks to an io device directly. It talks to a TaHoma, Connexoon, or another Overkiz gateway, which owns the pairings; lose the gateway and you lose the integration, not just the app.
- Pairing is a manufacturer process. Devices are enrolled with the vendor’s app or an installer tool, so adding hardware is a commissioning job rather than a Home Assistant one.
- Not sold everywhere. io-homecontrol is a European standard: North American Somfy hubs and motors are RTS and Zigbee, so a design that assumes position feedback has to check which regional variant is actually being bought.
- The gateway is the bottleneck. Gateways hold a short execution queue, so a scene that moves every cover at once needs staggering regardless of how capable the motors are.
io-homecontrol in Home Assistant
Support arrives through the Overkiz integration, which covers Somfy TaHoma and Connexoon gateways as well as the white-label vendors on the same platform, and through Velux for the KLF 200 interface. Somfy and Rexel gateways additionally expose a local API, which removes the cloud round trip for covers, lights, and switches, though scenarios and climate entities remain cloud only. In a Selora install, io-homecontrol is the protocol to specify when shading has to participate in real automation rather than being pushed open and closed on a schedule.

Bridge Cozytouch
The Bridge Cozytouch is the gateway behind most of the installed Atlantic base: it joins the home network and speaks io-homecontrol to the heat pumps, water heaters, radiators, and ventilation. Home Assistant reads it through the Overkiz integration with Atlantic Cozytouch as the server, over the cloud only. Atlantic has since moved current radiators and towel rails to CozyBox, so the bridge is now a device to support rather than to specify.

Pass Cozytouch
The Pass Cozytouch (602251) is the io-homecontrol radio interface that retrofits an Atlantic appliance with no radio of its own. It mounts behind the unit and lets the Bridge Cozytouch, and therefore Home Assistant, see it.

Flexom Box
The Flexom box is the Overkiz gateway Bouygues Immobilier installs in its new-build apartments and houses. It is multiprotocol, bridging io-homecontrol shutters, EnOcean lighting, RTS equipment, and Z-Wave devices, and Home Assistant reaches all of it through the Overkiz integration with Bouygues Flexom as the server.

HexaConnect Gateway
The HexaConnect gateway is the Overkiz DIN-rail box Hexaom fits into a new house at construction, in the electrical or communication panel. It runs the HexaConnect app's shutters, lighting, and heating, and Home Assistant reaches the same devices through the Overkiz integration with Hexaom HexaConnect as the server.

Eugénie Box
The Eugénie box is the DIN-rail Overkiz controller Nexity fits into an apartment's electrical panel during construction, driving the shutters, lighting, heating, smoke detection, and energy monitoring the Eugénie app shows. Home Assistant reaches the same devices through the Overkiz integration with Nexity Eugénie as the server.

Energeasy Connect V3 (RXCE.CONNECT3)
The Energeasy Connect V3 controller (RXCE.CONNECT3) is Rexel's plug-in multiprotocol gateway on the Overkiz platform, combining io-homecontrol, RTS, and Zigbee. It is one of the few Overkiz gateways Home Assistant can drive over the local API instead of the cloud.

Energeasy Connect V3 Rail Din (RXCKITMOD3)
The Energeasy Connect V3 Rail Din (RXCKITMOD3) is the DIN-rail version of Rexel's multiprotocol controller: the same io-homecontrol, RTS, and Zigbee radios and the same Home Assistant local API support, in a module that mounts in the consumer unit.

Bridge Cozytouch
Sauter's Bridge Cozytouch is the same gateway hardware as its Atlantic and Thermor siblings, badged for Sauter's radiators, towel rails, water heaters, and ventilation. It joins the home network, speaks io-homecontrol to the appliances, and reaches Home Assistant through the Overkiz integration with Sauter Cozytouch as the server.

Connexoon io
Connexoon io (1811429) is the small io-homecontrol box Somfy sold as an entry point below TaHoma, with three app personalities for windows, access, and the terrace. It is discontinued, but Home Assistant still drives it through Overkiz over both the cloud and the local API.

IZYMO Shutter Receiver io
The IZYMO Shutter Receiver io (1822661) is a micromodule that fits behind an existing shutter switch and puts a wired roller shutter onto io-homecontrol without replacing the motor. The existing wall switch keeps working, and the shutter gains position feedback through the gateway.

Oximo io
Oximo io is Somfy's io-homecontrol motor for exterior roller shutters, sold both on its own and as a retrofit kit that replaces any existing shutter motor whatever brand or technology it used. It reports position, detects obstacles, and is the standard way to bring a house of dumb shutters into Home Assistant one window at a time.

Sonesse 40 io
The Sonesse 40 io is Somfy's quiet 40 mm tubular motor for interior blinds and projection screens, and it is the one to specify when a shade has to be automated properly: io-homecontrol means the motor reports its real position back to the gateway, so Home Assistant reads a position instead of guessing one.

TaHoma switch
TaHoma switch is Somfy's current hub and the one to specify for a new install, because it is a multiprotocol gateway that Home Assistant can drive over the local API instead of the Somfy cloud. It ships in two regional variants, and which radios are inside depends on which one was bought.

TaHoma v2
TaHoma v2 is the previous generation Somfy box, superseded by the TaHoma switch but still in thousands of homes. It is worth knowing because Home Assistant supports it over the local API, so an older installation does not have to be replaced to get local control.

Bridge Cozytouch / Bridge 2 Cozytouch
Thermor's Bridge Cozytouch connects its io-homecontrol radiators, towel rails, water heaters, and ventilation to the Cozytouch app, and through the Overkiz integration to Home Assistant. Two generations exist, the wired Bridge Cozytouch (400990) and the Wi-Fi Bridge 2 Cozytouch (400991), and current Wi-Fi appliances skip both.

WizzBox
The WizzBox is the Overkiz DIN-rail gateway Ubiwizz sells to electrical installers, bridging EnOcean, io-homecontrol, RTS, and Z-Wave equipment from one module in the communication panel. Home Assistant reaches it through the Overkiz integration with Ubiwizz as the server.
