S5 Max

Selora recommended

A Roborock S5 Max rooted and reflashed with cloud-free Valetudo firmware. It publishes a full vacuum entity and live map to Home Assistant over MQTT, runs on the local network, and can have all internet access blocked. The most private option in this catalog, once you match the hardware.

Roles it can fill
Tier 1, local. Valetudo replaces the stock firmware on a rooted robot, so nothing ever talks to a vendor cloud. It runs an MQTT client with Home Assistant autodiscovery, exposing a vacuum entity (start, pause, stop, return_to_base, clean_spot, locate, set_fan_speed, send_command), battery and bin sensors, and full live map data. Per-room cleaning works once the robot's mapped segments are matched to Home Assistant areas. Because it runs fully on the LAN, you can block the robot's WAN access on an IoT VLAN. The S5 Max must be rooted (the Valetudo project documents the FEL disassembly method for this model), and you must match an exact supported PCB revision. This hardware is discontinued, so buy used and verify the board against the Valetudo supported-robots list before purchase. Mova and Viomi rebrands of similar hardware are not recommended.
