A video doorbell combines a camera with a press event Home Assistant can use as an automation trigger. Doorbells in the Selora catalog also carry the camera role, so they work anywhere a recipe needs a camera.
A video doorbell is the front door’s camera plus a button. The press event is the interesting part for automations: it is an instant, unambiguous signal that someone wants attention, which motion detection alone cannot give you.
