Energy Gateway

An energy gateway is the metering and communications hub of a solar or storage system, the device Home Assistant actually talks to. It aggregates inverters, batteries, and meters into one local data source.

An energy gateway is the brain of an energy system: it collects data from microinverters, batteries, and revenue-grade meters, and exposes the whole picture on the local network. Devices like the Enphase IQ Gateway and Victron Cerbo GX are the single endpoint Home Assistant polls, so one integration brings in production, consumption, and storage at once.

How Selora AI uses energy gateways

  • One local endpoint for the entire energy system: production, consumption, battery, and grid in a single poll.
  • Import/export awareness so recipes know when the home is selling power and when it is buying.
  • Fleet visibility for installers, with every site’s energy data flowing through a device they control.

Why energy gateways matter

Solar and storage hardware rarely speaks to Home Assistant directly; the gateway is what makes a system observable. Choosing hardware whose gateway has a documented local API is the difference between owning the data and renting it from a monitoring portal.
