Gas Detector
A gas detector senses combustible or toxic gas such as natural gas or LPG and raises an alarm. It lets automations cut the supply, ventilate, and alert occupants before a leak becomes dangerous.
Gas detectors monitor the air for combustible gas (methane, propane) or carbon monoxide and sound a local alarm when levels cross a safety threshold. Tying that alarm into Home Assistant turns a standalone siren into a whole-home response.
How Selora AI uses gas detectors
- Supply shut-off by closing a smart gas valve the moment a leak is detected.
- Ventilation that opens vents or runs exhaust fans to clear the gas.
- Escalation that triggers sirens, strobes, and notifications to occupants and the installer.
Safety note
A gas detector is a life-safety device. Keep its local alarm intact so it still warns people even if Home Assistant or the network is down; treat the automation as an extra layer, not a replacement.
