Occupancy Sensor
An occupancy sensor reports whether a space is in use, typically from passive infrared (PIR) motion. It turns lights and scenes on when someone enters and off after the room is empty.
An occupancy sensor detects people by their motion and heat, usually with a PIR element, and reports an occupied or vacant state to Home Assistant. It reacts quickly to someone entering but, unlike an mmWave presence sensor, can miss a person who stays still, so it suits hallways, closets, and utility spaces.
