Washer
A washer in this role reports cycle state, remaining time, and faults to Home Assistant, so a finished or stalled load gets noticed instead of sitting wet in the drum.
A connected washing machine is a monitoring device first. Home Assistant sees the running cycle, the time remaining, the selected programme, and the error the appliance raises when something goes wrong. Control is deliberately narrow: like a dishwasher, a machine that fills with water is not allowed to start itself, so every major brand gates remote starting behind a Remote Start button that has to be pressed at the machine first.
How Selora AI uses washers
- Cycle-complete notifications sent to whoever is actually home, so a finished load is moved to the dryer before it starts to smell.
- Fault alerts driven by the appliance’s own error reporting, which catches a cycle that stopped part way rather than one that finished.
- Off-peak scheduling that releases a pre-armed cycle when the electricity rate drops.
- Laundry-room coordination so a leak sensor behind the machine can cut a shut-off valve and raise an alert.
What installers should plan for
Run-state reporting varies more between models than clients expect: some machines report a rich cycle state with a countdown, others only running or idle. Confirm which one the client’s model gives before promising a dashboard countdown. These appliances are almost always cloud-connected, so allow for a lag of a minute or two between the machine finishing and Home Assistant knowing about it, and keep any automation that needs to be instant off the appliance’s state.
