Altus 40 RTS
Altus 40 RTS is Somfy's workhorse mains tubular motor for roller shutters, exterior blinds, louvres, and projection screens, with the RTS receiver built in. It is everywhere, it is cheap to specify, and it is one-way: Home Assistant can command it but never learns where it stopped.
A 38 mm motor for 40 mm tubes and up, sold from 3 Nm to 13 Nm at 10, 16, or 30 rpm, IP55 in the 40 and 50 mm diameters so it takes exterior duty, and rated for a four minute run. Up to twelve control points can be paired to one motor, which is how a shutter ends up answering a handset, a wall switch, a sun sensor, and a gateway at once. Limits are set from the remote and the intermediate `my` position is stored in the motor, so that one favourite position survives even though nothing else about the motor's state is readable. In Home Assistant, through a Connexoon RTS, a TaHoma, or a myLink, it appears as a stateless cover: Home Assistant sends the command and cannot track what the shutter did with it, so any open or closed state on a dashboard is one held alongside the entity. Where the shade's real position matters to a scene, either specify an io-homecontrol motor instead or add an independent sensor. Mains voltage differs by market, 230 V in Europe and 120 V on the North American references, so order against the destination rather than the model name.
Hardware availability
TaHoma switch is the current hub in both Europe and North America, in two regional variants: the European unit adds io-homecontrol to RTS and Zigbee, the North American unit is RTS and Zigbee only because io-homecontrol is not sold there. TaHoma v2 and the Connexoon boxes are no longer marketed, and Somfy’s own product page labels the Connexoon box discontinued, but both stay supported by Home Assistant and both still answer the local API. Somfy myLink is listed obsolete on the Somfy store. Motors are ordered through Somfy dealers and shade fabricators rather than retail, so several of the links below are manufacturer product pages rather than storefronts.
