Oximo io is Somfy's io-homecontrol motor for exterior roller shutters, sold both on its own and as a retrofit kit that replaces any existing shutter motor whatever brand or technology it used. It reports position, detects obstacles, and is the standard way to bring a house of dumb shutters into Home Assistant one window at a time.
The retrofit case is the interesting one: the kits are sold per opening, a 10 Nm motor for a window and a 20 Nm motor for a patio door, with the tube adaptors included, and they replace wired, RTS, or io motors alike. That makes a staged conversion possible, window by window, with each new motor appearing in Home Assistant as a cover with real position as soon as it is paired to the gateway. Obstacle detection, frost detection, and an anti-lift function are built in, and they act at the motor, so they still protect the shutter when the command came from an automation rather than a person. The Oximo Solar io variant runs from a photovoltaic panel and battery instead of mains, which is the way to automate a shutter on a wall with no cable, at the cost of a duty cycle limited by what the panel collects.
Hardware availability
TaHoma switch is the current hub in both Europe and North America, in two regional variants: the European unit adds io-homecontrol to RTS and Zigbee, the North American unit is RTS and Zigbee only because io-homecontrol is not sold there. TaHoma v2 and the Connexoon boxes are no longer marketed, and Somfy’s own product page labels the Connexoon box discontinued, but both stay supported by Home Assistant and both still answer the local API. Somfy myLink is listed obsolete on the Somfy store. Motors are ordered through Somfy dealers and shade fabricators rather than retail, so several of the links below are manufacturer product pages rather than storefronts.
