A UniFi Protect camera has no path to Home Assistant without a console, and this is the console for a camera count a Dream Machine's single bay cannot record: four 2.5/3.5-inch bays with RAID, redundant power, and headroom Ubiquiti rates at 60 cameras, or 18 of them at 4K. It hosts UniFi Access and UniFi Connect alongside Protect. It routes nothing and powers nothing, so the cameras still need a PoE switch, and the drives are bought separately, both of which are easy to leave off a quote. The unifiprotect integration connects over the LAN to the console. Full access needs a local UniFi OS user created on the console itself plus a Protect API key; an API key alone works but exposes a subset of the entities. Ubiquiti SSO cloud accounts do not work either way.
