Install from the Home Assistant Marketplace
Install community integrations, dashboard cards, and themes from the Home Assistant Marketplace, including custom repositories.
Since Home Assistant 2026.11, community integrations, dashboard cards, and themes come from the Home Assistant Marketplace, which is built into Home Assistant. It has the same catalog as HACS, so there is nothing to download or set up first.
Open the Home Assistant Marketplace
- Sign in to Home Assistant with an administrator account.
- Go to Settings > Marketplace. It is not in the sidebar.
- The first time, read and accept the warning: Home Assistant Marketplace content is made by the community, is not tested by the Home Assistant project, and runs with access to your system. Home Assistant cannot install or update anything from the Home Assistant Marketplace until you accept it.
Install From the Catalog
- In Settings > Marketplace, search for the project by name. Filters narrow the results by content type.
- Open the project page and select Install.
- Check the version in the dialog and select Install again.
- Finish the install for the content type:
- Integrations: if the Home Assistant Marketplace asks for a restart, use the repair under Settings > System > Repairs to restart Home Assistant, then add the integration under Settings > Devices & Services > Add Integration.
- Dashboard cards: reload the browser.
- Themes: they load automatically.
Add a Custom Repository
Use this when a project is not in the catalog. Adding a custom repository needs a GitHub connection, and the dialog asks you to connect if you have not already. Browsing, installing, and updating catalog content does not.
- Go to Settings > Marketplace.
- Select Add from link in the upper-right corner.
- Under GitHub link, enter the repository URL or
owner/repository. - Select Add. If the Home Assistant Marketplace cannot detect the content type, choose it under Type and select Add again.
- Install the project as in Install From the Catalog.
Updates
Each installed project gets an update entity, and new versions appear under Settings > Updates next to Home Assistant updates. Integrations need a restart after an update, and a repair reminds you.
Older Home Assistant Versions: HACS
On Home Assistant 2026.10 and older, install HACS to get the same catalog. HACS cannot be installed on 2026.11 or newer, and updating Home Assistant to 2026.11 moves everything it installed to the Home Assistant Marketplace automatically.
Install and open Studio Code Server or another terminal app if you have not already.
In Studio Code Server, select Terminal > New Terminal from the top menu.
Run the HACS install command from the official download page:
wget -O - https://get.hacs.xyz | bash -Restart Home Assistant.
Go to Settings > Devices & Services > Add Integration, search for HACS, and complete the setup flow, including the GitHub device authorization.
Open HACS from the sidebar. Install projects by searching for them, and add custom repositories from the menu in the upper-right corner under Custom repositories.
If HACS does not appear after setup, see the HACS Visibility Troubleshooting Checklist.
