Aqara FP2, Doorbell G4, and Camera Hub G3 Setup

Pair the Aqara Presence Sensor FP2, Video Doorbell G4, and Camera Hub G3 with Home Assistant over HomeKit, locally and without the Aqara cloud, and use them in presence and doorbell recipes.

Aqara HomeKit Presence Doorbell Cameras Integrations Setup

The Aqara Presence Sensor FP2, the Video Doorbell G4, and the Camera Hub G3 are Wi-Fi devices that speak HomeKit. Home Assistant pairs with them directly through the built-in HomeKit Device integration, over the local network, with no Aqara cloud in between. Each one is set up in the Aqara Home app first, where its zones, chime, and recordings are configured.

A HomeKit device pairs with one controller at a time. Paired with Home Assistant, it is not in Apple Home, so HomeKit Secure Video does not apply. Home Assistant can still share it with Apple Home through the HomeKit Bridge: see How to Integrate Home Assistant with HomeKit .

Aqara’s Zigbee sensors, which pair with a Zigbee coordinator, and its Matter locks are not covered here.

Before You Start

  1. Save the HomeKit setup code in Selora Connect. It is printed on the device or its packaging, and the device cannot be paired without it. Before mounting the device, scan its HomeKit QR code into the home’s Pairing Codes , so it is at hand once the label is out of reach. Scanning saves the 8-digit setup code and the QR code itself. Type the 8-digit code instead if there is no QR code.
  2. Use the Hub’s network. Home Assistant finds HomeKit devices over mDNS, which does not cross VLANs on its own. Put the devices on the same network as the Selora Hub, or relay mDNS to it.
  3. Use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for the FP2. It does not connect to 5 GHz networks.
  4. Reserve the IP addresses. Reserve each device’s address in the router.

Step 1: Set the Device Up in the Aqara Home App

  1. Add the device in the Aqara Home app and connect it to Wi-Fi.
  2. When the app offers to add it to Apple Home, skip that step. If it is already in Apple Home, remove it from the Home app: otherwise Home Assistant cannot pair with it.
  3. Update its firmware in the app.
  4. Finish the device’s own setup in the app:
    • FP2: the mounting position, the room’s edges and furniture, and the detection zones.
    • G4: the indoor chime and the microSD card for recordings.
    • G3: the microSD card and any Aqara Zigbee devices that pair to its hub.

Step 2: Pair It With Home Assistant

  1. Go to Settings > Devices & Services. The device appears under Discovered as HomeKit Device. Select Configure.
  2. Enter the HomeKit setup code. In Pairing Codes, it is the device’s Setup Code, in the form XXX-XX-XXX, not its Raw Pairing Code.
  3. Assign the device to an area.

If it is not discovered, check that it is not paired with Apple Home or another controller, and that it is on the Hub’s network.

Aqara Presence Sensor FP2

The FP2 appears with an occupancy sensor for the whole room, one for each zone set up in the Aqara Home app, and a light sensor. Occupancy updates as the FP2 reports it, which suits lights that follow presence.

  • Change zones in the Aqara Home app. Zones sync to Home Assistant on their own, each as its own occupancy sensor. Rename the sensors in Home Assistant if their names do not follow the zones.
  • Recipes: pick the room or zone occupancy sensors in Presence Room Lighting and as the presence sensors in Door or Window Left Open Alert .

Aqara Video Doorbell G4

The G4 appears with a camera entity and a doorbell event entity, which fires each time the button is pressed. Over HomeKit, the camera gives Home Assistant snapshots, not live video: watch the live stream in the Aqara Home app.

Using It in the Pause-Media Recipe

The Pause Media on Doorbell recipe needs a doorbell binary sensor that turns on with each ring. The G4 reports a press as an event instead, so give it a binary sensor first. Add this to configuration.yaml, for example with the Studio Code Server app, replacing the entity ID with the G4’s doorbell event:

template:
  - triggers:
      - trigger: state
        entity_id: event.video_doorbell_g4_doorbell
        not_from: unavailable
        not_to: unavailable
    binary_sensor:
      - name: "Front door doorbell pressed"
        state: "on"
        auto_off: 10

Restart Home Assistant, then pick Front door doorbell pressed as the recipe’s doorbell. It turns on with each press and off again 10 seconds later.

Aqara Camera Hub G3

The G3 appears with a camera entity. As with the G4, HomeKit gives Home Assistant snapshots, not live video.

The G3 is also a Zigbee hub. Supported Aqara Zigbee devices paired to it come through the same HomeKit pairing, with what HomeKit shares for each one. Pairing them to Home Assistant’s own Zigbee coordinator instead may expose more of their features, and does not depend on the camera.

Network Access

  • Between Home Assistant and the devices: HomeKit runs over the local network, and pairing needs mDNS on the Hub’s network.
  • From the devices to the internet: keep it open for the Aqara Home app, where zones, the chime, recordings, and firmware updates are managed.

Troubleshooting

  1. The device is not discovered. It is still paired with Apple Home or another controller, or it is on another VLAN. Remove it from the Home app, or move it to the Hub’s network.
  2. The setup code is refused. Check the code saved in Selora Connect against the device’s label. If it still fails, reset the device and set it up again in the Aqara Home app.
  3. The doorbell does nothing in the recipe. The recipe needs the template binary sensor above, not the doorbell event entity.
