Bluesound and NAD (BluOS) Setup
Bluesound and NAD players need no pairing in Home Assistant: set them up in the BluOS Controller app and Home Assistant detects them on the local network.
Bluesound and NAD players run BluOS and do not need to be paired with Home Assistant. Once a player is set up in the BluOS Controller app, Home Assistant detects it on the local network through the built-in Bluesound integration, which covers NAD too. No cloud account is needed.
Set Up the Players in the BluOS Controller App
Add each player with the BluOS Controller app and give it a room name:
- Wired: connect the player to the network with Ethernet, then select it in the app, where it shows as Needs setup, and name the room.
- Wi-Fi: the app offers Setup Now for a new player, or go to Players > Add a Player. Select the player’s hotspot, then choose the Wi-Fi network and enter its password.
Sign in to streaming services and save presets in the BluOS Controller app too. Home Assistant shows them as sources.
NAD BluOS-Ready Amplifiers
BluOS-Ready NAD models, such as the C 399 and C 3050, have no streaming until NAD’s optional MDC2 BluOS-D module is installed. Without it, they never appear in Home Assistant. Install the module, then set the amplifier up in the BluOS Controller app like any other player. BluOS-Enabled models, such as the M10 V3 and M33 V2, work out of the box.
Confirm the Players in Home Assistant
- Go to Settings > Devices & Services.
- Each player appears under Discovered as Bluesound. Select Add and confirm.
Every player is its own entry with a media player for playback, volume, source, and grouping. Players added to the BluOS Controller app later are discovered the same way.
If a player is not discovered, select Add Integration, search for Bluesound, and enter its IP address. Leave the port at 11000.
Grouping and Sleep Timers
- Grouping: group players with Home Assistant’s standard
media_player.joinandmedia_player.unjoinactions. The group leader controls playback; the other players only control their own volume. - Sleep timer: each player has Set sleep timer and Clear sleep timer buttons, disabled by default. Enable them in the device’s entity list. Each press of Set sleep timer steps through 15, 30, 45, 60, and 90 minutes, then off.
The integration polls the players, so a change made in the BluOS Controller app or on the remote reaches Home Assistant after a second or two.
If a Player Does Not Appear
- Check the BluOS Controller app. The player must play music there first. If it does not, fix the problem in the app before troubleshooting Home Assistant.
- Check the network. Discovery uses mDNS, which works when the players and Home Assistant share a subnet. Across VLANs, relay mDNS between the networks or add the player by IP address, and allow TCP 11000 from Home Assistant to the players.
- Update BluOS. Install BluOS updates when the BluOS Controller app offers them. Players left on old firmware can lose controls in Home Assistant.
- Reload the integration. Open Settings > Devices & Services > Bluesound, then select Reload from the player’s menu (⋮).
