UniFi Protect Integration Setup

This guide walks you through connecting your UniFi Protect system to Home Assistant. You will locate your UniFi OS device IP address, create a local user account, generate an API key, and add the UniFi Protect integration.

Before You Start

Confirm the following before you begin:

1. Your UniFi OS device (console or NVR) is powered on and reachable on the local network.
2. You have UniFi administrator credentials for local login.
3. Home Assistant is on the same network as your UniFi OS device.

Step 1: Find Your UniFi OS IP Address

You need the IP address of your UniFi OS device. The default is often 192.168.1.1.

If the UniFi Network integration is already set up, you can also find it in Home Assistant:

1. Go to Settings > Devices & Services > UniFi Network.
2. Look for devices such as:
   • Dream Machine (UDM)
   • Dream Machine Pro (UDM Pro)
   • Dream Machine SE (UDM SE)
   • Cloud Key Gen2 Plus (UCK-G2-PLUS)
   • UniFi Express (UX)
   • UNVR (UniFi NVR)
3. Copy the IP address for use in the next steps.

Step 2: Log In to UniFi OS Locally

1. Open a web browser.
2. Enter the IP address (for example, http://192.168.1.1).
3. Log in using your UniFi administrator credentials.

Step 3: Create a Local User Account

1. In UniFi OS, go to Admins & Users (or navigate to /admins/).
2. Click the + button in the top-right corner.
3. Select Add Admin.
4. Configure the following:
   • Enable Restrict to local access only.
   • Create a username and password.
   • Assign Full Management permissions for Protect.
5. Click Add to save.

Step 4: Create an API Key

1. In UniFi OS, go to Settings > Control Plane > Integrations (or navigate to /network/default/integrations/).
2. Enter a name (for example, Home Assistant).
3. Click Create API Key.
4. Copy and save the generated key.

Step 5: Add UniFi Protect to Home Assistant

1. In Home Assistant, go to Settings > Devices & Services > Add Integration.
2. Search for UniFi Protect. If it appears under Discovered, you can select it directly.
3. Enter the following details:
   • Host: IP address of your UniFi OS device
   • Username: local user you created
   • Password: corresponding password
   • API Key: generated in the previous step
4. Click Submit.

Verify the Connection

Once connected, your UniFi cameras and Protect devices should appear in Home Assistant.

If the integration fails:

1. Confirm you are using the local IP address.
2. Verify the credentials and API key.
3. Ensure the user has the proper permissions.
