Wallbox Charger Setup
Connect a Wallbox Pulsar Plus to Home Assistant through the myWallbox cloud, use its pause and resume switch in the solar-surplus EV charging recipe, and know when local OCPP is worth it.
The built-in Wallbox integration connects Home Assistant to a Wallbox charger through the myWallbox cloud, the same service the Wallbox app uses. It reads the charging status, power, and session energy, sets the charging current, and pauses and resumes charging. It checks a single charger every 90 seconds, a rate agreed with Wallbox, and more slowly when the account has several.
The Pulsar Plus can also connect to Home Assistant locally over OCPP, but that path has no reliable pause and resume for automations: see Local Control Over OCPP . Use the cloud integration for the solar-surplus recipe.
Before You Start
- Set the charger up in the Wallbox app and connect it to Wi-Fi. Check the signal where the charger is mounted: a weak Wi-Fi connection is the most common cause of problems.
- Use a myWallbox account with an email and password. Accounts that sign in with Google or Apple are not supported. Create a separate user for Home Assistant if the owner signs in with one, and give it admin rights on the charger in the myWallbox portal: without them, the current setting, the lock, and Resume schedule are missing or fail.
- Note the charger’s serial number. It is in the Wallbox app and on the myWallbox portal, under Chargers.
- Turn off the charger’s auto-lock. It is on by default and locks the charger after each session, and Home Assistant cannot resume a locked charger. In the Wallbox app, open the charger’s Settings > Advanced Options and turn Auto-lock off. Only the charger’s super-admin can change it.
- Reserve its IP address. Reserve the charger’s address in the router. The cloud integration does not need it, but OCPP and troubleshooting do.
Step 1: Add the Charger to Home Assistant
- Go to Settings > Devices & Services, select Add Integration, and search for Wallbox.
- Enter the charger’s serial number, and the myWallbox account’s email and password.
- Assign the charger to an area.
The charger appears with its status, charging power, added energy, and cost sensors, a Max charging current number, a Lock, a Pause/resume switch, a Solar charging select, and a Resume schedule button.
For the Energy dashboard, add the Added energy sensor under Individual devices.
Use It With Solar-Surplus EV Charging
In the Solar Surplus EV Charging recipe, pick the charger’s Pause/resume switch as the EV charger. The recipe resumes the session when the surplus holds and pauses it when the surplus goes away, at the current set by Max charging current.
Three things to know:
- The switch only works while a car is plugged in. It is unavailable when no car is connected, and while the charger is locked, updating, or in error.
- A pause can suspend the charger’s own schedule and Eco-Smart, as a manual stop in the Wallbox app does, until Resume schedule is pressed. Do not combine the recipe with Wallbox schedules. If a schedule stops running, press Resume schedule.
- The cloud adds delay. With one charger, Home Assistant sees a change up to 90 seconds late, so keep the recipe’s hold time at its default of 3 minutes or more.
The Solar charging select controls Wallbox’s own Eco-Smart, which needs a Wallbox power meter kit at the panel. Use either Eco-Smart or the recipe, not both.
Local Control Over OCPP
Wallbox supports pointing the Pulsar Plus at an OCPP 1.6J server. In Home Assistant, that server is the community OCPP integration , installed through HACS , which lists the Wallbox Pulsar as verified. It is local, but weigh these first:
- The charger stays locked while it waits. In OCPP mode, a session only starts once it is authorized, with an RFID card or from the OCPP server.
- There is no pause. The OCPP integration’s Charge Control switch ends the session when turned off, and its documentation notes that turning it on again does not force a new session to start. It is not a suitable switch for the recipe.
- The cloud stays in the loop. Wallbox keeps the charger connected to myWallbox in OCPP mode, for its status and software updates, and some app features remain, such as the current limit and schedules.
- Some meter values can be missing, depending on the firmware.
To set it up:
- Install the OCPP integration from HACS, then add it under Settings > Devices & Services.
Keep the default port
9000, and note the Charge point identity. - In the Wallbox app, open the charger’s status screen, select the configuration button, then
OCPP. Turn Enable on, enter
ws://<Hub IP address>:9000as the URL and the same Charge Point Identity as in Home Assistant, leave the password empty, accept the terms, and select Save. The charger restarts with the new settings. - Check that the app shows the OCPP connection as connected. If it stays on Connecting, try the
URL with a trailing
/, which some chargers require.
The charger connects to the Hub, so give the Hub a fixed address, as described in Reserve IP Addresses .
Network Access
- Cloud integration: Home Assistant and the charger both need the internet. Home Assistant
reaches Wallbox’s servers over HTTPS. The charger connects to myWallbox on
*.wall-box.com, TCP 443 and 80. - OCPP: the charger connects to Home Assistant on TCP 9000.
Troubleshooting
- Setup fails to sign in. Check that the account uses an email and password, not Google or Apple, and that the serial number is the one in the app.
- The current setting or Resume schedule is missing, or a repair reports insufficient rights. Give the account admin rights on the charger in the myWallbox portal.
- Pause/resume is unavailable. No car is plugged in, or the charger is locked. Unlock it, and turn off auto-lock.
- Data stops updating. Check that the charger shows as online in the myWallbox portal. The integration uses the same service, so the cause is usually the charger’s connection.
- The charger no longer follows its schedule. A pause from Home Assistant can suspend it. Press Resume schedule.
