Home Assistant Companion App Remote Access

Before You Start

Make sure:

1. Remote Access has already been turned on in your Selora Homes installation page.
2. You have your personal remote access URL and password from the step above saved in a secure location.
3. You have already finished Home Assistant Companion App Setup .

Add Your Remote Access URL in the App

1. Open the Home Assistant Companion App.
2. Go to Settings > Companion App.
3. Open the connected Home Assistant server shown at the top of the page.
4. Find the External URL field.
5. Enter your personal remote access URL if it is not already set.
6. Save the settings.

Verify Remote Access in the App

1. Confirm the app can still open your Home Assistant dashboard.
2. If you want to test remote access, turn off Wi-Fi on your phone for a moment.
3. Confirm the app can still load your Home Assistant dashboard while using the remote connection.

Protection Mode and the App

How much of the app works remotely depends on the protection mode set on your installation’s Remote Access card. Expand Advanced there to see or change it.

On Password, web only, you enter the remote access password in the app to reach Home Assistant, but any feature that talks to the API in the background stops working: location tracking and presence automations, device sensor updates, live entity state streaming, and Watch or CarPlay. Push notifications you receive still arrive, because those come through Apple or Google rather than your remote URL.

If location tracking stopped working after you set up remote access, this mode is the first thing to check.
