Communication Protocol Device Installation

Install and support communication-protocol devices one at a time with a Selora Homes Customer Support Engineer.

Installer Zigbee Z-Wave Matter Communication-Protocols

Use this procedure when a device in the Installation Plan connects through Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, or another communication protocol.

Installation Rules

When working through the Installation Plan:

  1. Build mesh networks by starting with devices nearest the SeloraBox first, then move outward.
  2. If multiple protocols are used, work through one protocol at a time.
  3. Install each protocol-based device one at a time.
  4. Work with a Selora Homes Customer Support Engineer to integrate each device after it is installed or powered on.
  5. If a device includes a QR code or physical pairing code, take a photo of it for integration and documentation.
  6. If a device does not connect after a few attempts, document the issue, move on, and return after the easy wins are complete.

Protocol-Specific Notes

Zigbee

  • Be ready to power on the device, reset it, or place it into pairing mode.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact pairing process.

Z-Wave

  • Be ready to power on the device, place it into inclusion mode, or wake a battery-powered device.
  • If a device includes a SmartStart QR code, capture it for a Selora Homes Customer Support Engineer.

Matter

  • Capture the Matter pairing code or QR code from the packaging or device.
  • Be ready for customer phone involvement if the device requires commissioning or approval steps.

When to Stop and Escalate

Stop and escalate to a Selora Homes Customer Support Engineer when:

  • The device does not enter pairing or inclusion mode.
  • The device repeatedly fails to connect.
  • The device must stay partially disassembled or accessible for pairing.
  • The issue may affect safety, wiring, or final installation quality.
