Summary

Floor plan management extends Installation Manifests with the physical layer of a home. Installers upload the home’s floor plans (PDF or image) to a manifest, and Selora Connect takes them from there: it understands the structure of the plans — floors, rooms, areas, and walls — using AI, and uses that understanding to fill in the manifest and to help installers add and place devices directly on the plans.

Today, a manifest describes a home in text and tables. That works for inventory, but a layout is hard to read in a table: where exactly does the camera cover the entryway, or the sensor sit in the hallway? Floor plans close that gap — the manifest becomes a drawing of the home, not just a list of it.

How it works

1. Upload

  • Installers upload one or more floor plans per manifest (PDF, PNG, JPEG), one file per floor where available
  • Uploads are attached to the project, so every team member working the install sees the same plans
  • Plans can be replaced at any time — re-upload, and Connect re-analyzes

2. Connect understands the plan

Using AI, Connect reads each uploaded plan:

  • Detects the structure: which files are which floors, and where the walls are
  • Identifies rooms and areas: living room, kitchen, bedrooms — matched to Selora’s area naming so the manifest’s area list and the plan agree with each other
  • Fills the manifest: the detected areas are offered to the installer for confirmation and merged into the manifest’s home overview — no re-typing of a room list that’s already on paper
  • Scales to the home: where the drawing is to scale (or dimensions are provided), Connect can estimate room sizes, which helps with device placement and coverage decisions

3. Place devices on the plan

  • Every device in the manifest (existing, to-install, to-upgrade) can be pinned to its position on the plan
  • Installers drag a device onto a room and wall position — the manifest entry and the drawing stay in sync: edit one, the other follows
  • Device type is shown visually (sensor vs. switch vs. camera), so coverage and sight lines are easy to check at a glance
  • Before leaving a site, the installer can review the plan to confirm everything is where it should be — and the plan becomes the record of where each device actually went, which support and troubleshooting then rely on

Why it matters

  • Faster installations: the room/area list and device positions come from the plan instead of being hand-entered, so installers spend less time typing and more time installing
  • Better first-time-right: placement decisions (camera angle, sensor coverage) are made on the drawing before mounting, not after — catching problems on the plan is cheaper than discovering them on the wall
  • Cleaner handover to support: a floor plan with devices pinned is unambiguous context. When something misbehaves later, the support team sees exactly where each device is, without a phone call to the installer
  • Complete manifests: the manifest stops being just a list — it becomes the full physical record of the installation, which also feeds what comes next: Automated Troubleshooting for Installers and future guided placement flows

What’s included

  • Upload & management: add, replace, delete floor plans per manifest; one or more floors per home
  • AI structure detection: floors, walls, rooms/areas, room labeling, scale estimation where possible
  • Manifest sync: detected areas merge into the manifest’s home overview (installer confirms before merging)
  • Device placement: pin manifest devices to coordinates on the plan, visual device icons, two-way sync between the drawing and the manifest’s device list
  • Multi-floor support: switch between floors, place devices on the correct level

Out of scope (for now)

  • 3D modeling and rendering — the plans stay 2D drawings
  • Automatic coverage simulation (e.g. Wi-Fi heatmaps) — placement is assisted, not simulated
  • Editing the drawing itself (moving walls, redrafting rooms) — the source plan is the reference; if the home changes, the installer re-uploads an updated plan

Open questions

  • Plan quality varies — how far does detection go when the plan is a photo of paper, or a sketch with no scale? Fallback: manual area drawing on top of the image?
  • Scale and units — how do we confirm the plan is to scale (metrics vs. imperial) and get accurate sizing?
  • Multi-floor mapping — when the plans don’t label floors, how do installers tell Connect which file is which level?
  • Ownership — the floor plan can be the homeowner’s document; what are the sharing and retention rules?
