Installation Manifests
Comprehensive home overview and device inventory to guide installation and troubleshooting.
Summary
Installation manifests are comprehensive documentation of a home’s existing setup and requirements. When creating Projects, a complete overview of the home to be installed or updated lays the foundation for both the design of a solution and its implementation.
Installation manifests describe the home and its existing devices — what needs to be upgraded, what needs to be installed, and what’s already in place. They serve as the bridge between the initial assessment and the actual implementation work.
Purpose
Installation manifests serve multiple critical functions throughout the project lifecycle:
- Define the project perimeter — Shared with the home owner to clearly outline what will and won’t be included in the project scope
- Track installation progress — Used during installation to monitor what’s been completed, what’s pending, and what issues have been encountered
- Support troubleshooting — Help the support team understand the full context when diagnosing issues
- Drive guided installations — Provide a dedicated, live page that shows installers their next steps in real time
What’s Included
An installation manifest captures:
- Home overview — Physical layout, network infrastructure, power distribution
- Existing devices — All currently installed devices, their status, and connectivity
- Devices to install — New hardware to be deployed during the project
- Devices to upgrade — Existing equipment that needs firmware updates or replacement
- Integration requirements — What systems need to communicate and what protocols are involved
- Owner preferences — Specific requirements and preferences defined with the home owner
Guided Installation
Installation manifests power guided installations — a live, interactive page that walks installers through each step:
- Device inventory — Know exactly what devices are needed before arriving on-site
- Step-by-step guidance — Clear instructions for each installation phase
- Selora-prepared integrations — Selora can prepare certain integrations in advance, especially those requiring sensitive credentials, so the installer focuses on hardware placement and connection
- Real-time progress tracking — Updates as each step is completed
- Support access — Support team can view the manifest to provide informed assistance
Benefits
- For homeowners: Clear understanding of what the project covers, with visibility into scope and deliverables
- For installers: Structured workflow with no surprises — they know exactly what’s needed and in what order
- For support: Full context available for troubleshooting, reducing resolution time
- For Selora: Faster onboarding, fewer repeat visits, better first-time-right rate
