Selora AI 1.2.0 and later work with Frigate, the camera recorder that runs on your Selora Hub. Turn Frigate on first, then use Selora AI to set up your cameras and to ask about what they saw.

Add your cameras

Ask Selora AI in chat, for example “Add my cameras to Frigate.” It finds:

  • the cameras already in Home Assistant, which keep their own controls there;
  • cameras on the home network that Home Assistant does not have yet;
  • any camera you name by its IP address.

They appear on a card with what Frigate will do: which objects it tracks (people, unless you ask for more, such as cars or animals) and whether it records, and for how many days if you said. For a camera that is not in Home Assistant, type its username and password on the card. The login goes straight to Frigate: it never passes through the AI or the conversation.

Confirm the card and the cameras appear in Frigate. Each camera needs a fixed IP address, so reserve one on the router first.

Ask what the cameras saw

Frigate keeps an event for each person, car, or animal it tracks, with the camera, the time, and the zones it crossed. Ask Selora AI about them, for example “Did anyone come to the front door this afternoon?” The answer shows each event with the picture Frigate saved.

Selora AI can also suggest automations for a camera, such as a notification when a person is detected while nobody is home, or a light that turns on in the camera’s area. It builds them from what the home already has and shows them on the usual automation card for you to accept.

Camera descriptions

Frigate tells you a car went by. With camera descriptions, Selora AI says which one, in words you can search: “A white FedEx cargo van parked on the driveway.” Then ask “Any FedEx truck today?” and the chat shows it.

Descriptions are not made on the Hub: pictures of the people and vehicles a camera sees are sent to Selora AI Cloud to be described, and they use your Selora AI credits. Every camera starts off, and only your yes turns one on. Keep them for outdoor cameras, never indoor ones. See Camera descriptions for privacy and how credits are shared with the assistant.

Recognize faces

Frigate can recognize the people the household knows, and it runs on the Hub: no face leaves the house. Selora AI offers to turn it on, then shows a card to add each person with a name and a few real photos of their face. The photos go straight to Frigate and never to the AI. Once Frigate knows someone, you can ask “When did Alex get home?” See Face recognition for how many photos to add and which cameras work best.
