Alexa Voice Control

Alexa voice control lets you operate the devices in your Home Assistant installation by voice — “Alexa, turn off the kitchen lights.” You can speak to anything with Alexa built in: an Echo, the Alexa app, a Fire TV, or a speaker such as the Sonos Era 100 .

You link the Selora skill once from the Alexa app. After that, Alexa reaches your home through Selora Connect, so nothing needs to be opened on your router and no address of your home is shared with Amazon.

Before You Start

• You are on a paid plan. Voice control is included in Essentials, Premium, Estate, and Enterprise. It is not included in Free.
• Your Selora Hub is online. You can check this on your installation page in Selora Connect .
• You have an Amazon account and the Alexa app.
• You are in the United States or Canada. Other Alexa regions are not supported yet.

Link Your Account

1. Open the Alexa app.
2. Go to More → Skills & Games.
3. Search for Selora and open the skill.
4. Tap Enable To Use.
5. Sign in with your Selora Connect email and password.
6. Review what you are allowing, then tap Allow Alexa.

If your Selora account has more than one home, the linking screen asks which one this should control. Choose the home, then tap Allow Alexa.

Find Your Devices

After linking, say:

Alexa, discover devices

You can also do this in the Alexa app under Devices → + → Add Device → Discover Devices. Discovery takes up to a minute.

Run discovery again whenever you add devices in Home Assistant, or whenever you change which devices are exposed.

Choose Which Devices Alexa Can See

Alexa sees the entities your Home Assistant installation exposes to it, and nothing else. To change the list, open Home Assistant and go to Settings → Voice assistants → Expose, then add or remove entities for Alexa.

New entities are exposed to Alexa by default. If you would rather start from nothing and add devices deliberately, turn that off on the same screen before you run discovery.

After any change, run discovery again so Alexa picks it up.

What You Can Say

Once devices are discovered, the usual Alexa phrasing works:

Alexa uses the name each device has in Home Assistant. If a command is not recognised, rename the device in Home Assistant to something you would naturally say, then run discovery again.

Check It from Selora Connect

Open your installation in Selora Connect and look at the Services section. The Alexa tile shows one of three states:

Stop Alexa Reaching Your Home

Unlink the skill in the Alexa app: More → Skills & Games → Your Skills → Selora → Disable Skill.

This takes effect immediately: Amazon stops sending anything to your home.

If two Amazon accounts are linked to the same home, one of them unlinking does not affect the other.

Troubleshooting

Discovery finds no devices. Check that your hub is online in Selora Connect, then check Settings → Voice assistants → Expose in Home Assistant — if nothing is exposed to Alexa, discovery correctly returns nothing. Expose the devices you want and run discovery again.

Alexa says a device is not responding. This usually means the hub is offline or is not answering in time. Check the installation page in Selora Connect; if the hub shows as online, try the command again.

Alexa asks you to link the skill again. Sign in again through the Alexa app. Re-linking restores voice control without changing anything else, and does not affect anyone else who has linked the same home.

A device is missing after you added it in Home Assistant. Run discovery again. Alexa does not pick up new devices on its own.
