This guide explains how to migrate your existing Home Assistant installation to Selora Hub, our managed Home Assistant platform.
Overview
To use Selora Homes services with your existing Home Assistant setup, our operating system needs to be installed on your hardware. The migration process involves backing up your current configuration and restoring it on a fresh Selora Hub installation.
Prerequisites
- A working Home Assistant installation with the latest version
- A new device for Selora Hub (or willingness to wipe your current device)
- Safe storage for your backup files
- A Selora Homes account
Migration Steps
1. Update Home Assistant
Ensure your Home Assistant installation is running the latest version before creating a backup. This ensures compatibility with the Selora Hub system.
2. Create a Manual Backup
Create a full backup of your Home Assistant system:
- Navigate to Settings → System → Backups
- Click Create Backup
- Select Full Backup to include all data
- Wait for the backup to complete

3. Download and Store the Backup Safely
- Download the backup file from Home Assistant
- Store the backup in a safe location (e.g., cloud storage, external drive)
- Important: Replicate the backup to a second safe storage location before proceeding
4. Install Selora Hub
- Download the Selora Hub ISO image from downloads.selorahomes.com
- Follow the Selora Hub Installation Guide to install the image on your new device
- Complete the device claiming process in your Selora Homes account as described in the installation guide
5. Restore Your Backup
During the Home Assistant onboarding screen on your new Selora Hub installation:
- Select the option to restore from a backup
- Upload your backup file
- Wait for the restoration to complete
- Verify that your devices, automations, and configurations are working correctly
