Bluesound & Home Assistant
Bluesound and NAD gear runs on BluOS, and Home Assistant talks to it locally through the bluesound integration. No cloud account is needed for control. The integration discovers players over Zeroconf on _musc._tcp.local., then exposes each one as a media_player with power, volume, source, grouping, and playback state.
One integration covers the whole BluOS lineup. That takes in Bluesound streamers, streaming amplifiers, and speakers, plus every BluOS-Enabled NAD component and any BluOS-Ready NAD amplifier fitted with the optional MDC2 BluOS-D module. Multiroom grouping is handled by the bluesound.join and bluesound.unjoin services, and streaming-service logins live in the BluOS Controller app, surfacing in Home Assistant as sources and presets.

Common Bluesound Issues

State updates lag on local polling
The bluesound integration is local-polling, not push, so play/pause, volume, and source changes appear in Home Assistant after a short interval rather than instantly. Automations that react to playback state should tolerate a second or two of delay.
Zeroconf discovery across VLANs
Players are discovered over Zeroconf on _musc._tcp.local. If Home Assistant and the BluOS players sit on different subnets or VLANs, discovery silently fails until an mDNS reflector is configured to bridge the segments.
BluOS-Ready NAD needs the MDC2 module
NAD's BluOS-Ready models (C 389, C 399, C 3050) have no streaming until the paid optional MDC2 BluOS-D module is installed, so there is no media_player entity to add without it. BluOS-Enabled units and every Bluesound player work out of the box.
Firmware drift breaks control
The integration relies on the pyblu library speaking to current BluOS firmware. Players left on stale firmware can lose control features or fail to reconnect, so keep BluOS updated across every node.
