The Lutron integration connects Home Assistant to a RadioRA 2 Main Repeater. It automatically discovers the rooms and their switches and dimmers as configured in the RadioRA 2 software and exposes them to Home Assistant.

Support is deliberately focused. Presently the integration communicates only with the RadioRA 2 Main Repeater and handles light switches, dimmers, and seeTouch keypad scenes. Any configured Powr Savr occupancy sensors are added as occupancy binary sensors. Communication is local polling over telnet, so control stays on the local network with no cloud dependency.

Connect to the RadioRA 2 repeater

Point Home Assistant at the repeater's IP address using the telnet integration credentials set in the RadioRA 2 software. Home Assistant discovers the rooms and their switches and dimmers automatically.

Control lights and keypad scenes

Switches and dimmers appear as light entities, and seeTouch keypad scenes become activatable scenes. Any Powr Savr occupancy sensors report as occupancy binary sensors.

Automate locally

Because control runs over a local telnet connection, automations react on the local network and keep working when the internet is down.

Common Lutron Issues

The problems installers run into with Lutron and Home Assistant — and how a managed setup prevents them.

Telnet user required on newer systems

RadioRA 2 software version 12 and later no longer accept the default telnet login. A dedicated integration (telnet) user has to be created manually in the RadioRA 2 software before Home Assistant can connect.

Repeater IP changes break the connection

The integration talks to a fixed repeater address. If the repeater's IP changes on the network, Home Assistant loses the connection until the address is corrected. A static IP or DHCP reservation is strongly recommended.

Focused platform support

The integration presently covers light switches, dimmers, seeTouch keypad scenes, and Powr Savr occupancy sensors. Other Lutron device types are not exposed, so mixed installations may still rely on the device's own control for anything outside that set.

Program changes need a re-sync

Rooms, switches, and dimmers are read from the RadioRA 2 configuration at setup. Adding or renaming devices in the RadioRA 2 software later means the integration has to be reloaded before the changes appear.
