Can I group Marantz speakers with other brands in Home Assistant?

In many cases, yes. Home Assistant supports multi-room audio grouping across compatible platforms. However, cross-brand grouping often has sync limitations. A managed setup tests and tunes speaker groups to minimize audible delay.

Can Home Assistant play announcements through Marantz speakers?

Yes. Home Assistant can send TTS (text-to-speech) announcements to Marantz speakers, including the ability to duck current music, play the announcement, and resume. This works for doorbell alerts, security warnings, or custom notifications.

Will Marantz still work with its native app alongside Home Assistant?

Yes. Most media integrations coexist with the manufacturer's app. You can start music from the Marantz app and Home Assistant will still see the playback state. However, simultaneous control from both can sometimes cause conflicts.

Marantz Cinema AV receivers and Model series network amplifiers integrate with Home Assistant over your local network. In Home Assistant, Marantz is a virtual brand that resolves to two integrations. Receivers are controlled through denonavr, which uses Telnet push on port 23 with an HTTP fallback. Model amplifiers with HEOS built in, and other HEOS players, are controlled through heos.

On the receivers this covers local volume, source, surround mode, and zone control. On the network amplifiers it covers playback, grouping, and announcements. No cloud account is required for control. An optional HEOS account is only needed for streaming favorites and playlists.

Common Marantz Issues

The problems installers run into with Marantz and Home Assistant — and how a managed setup prevents them.

One Telnet control connection per receiver

The denonavr integration allows a single Telnet connection to a Cinema receiver at a time. A Control4, Crestron, Savant, or RTI system already on port 23 blocks Home Assistant, and vice versa. The Marantz phone app uses the HTTP web control interface and does not take that slot.

Network Standby required for remote power on

Marantz receivers need Network Control set to Always On, labeled Network Standby on some models, for Home Assistant to power them on from standby. It is the default on recent models and raises standby power draw slightly.

Two media_player entities per HEOS receiver

Cinema receivers that support HEOS appear in both the denonavr and heos integrations, so each one produces two media_player entities. They are complementary, not redundant: denonavr carries power, zones, and sound mode, while heos carries album art, metadata, and media browsing. Combine them with a Universal Media Player instead of removing either.
