Rain Bird’s ESP-series controllers are a professional irrigation staple, and the LNK/LNK2 Wi-Fi module turns them into locally controllable smart controllers. Home Assistant’s core Rain Bird integration connects to the module over the LAN with just an IP address and password: each zone becomes a switch, the rain sensor appears as a binary sensor, schedules surface as a calendar, and a rain delay number plus a start-irrigation action cover the rest.

The module only accepts one connection at a time, so Home Assistant commands can fail while the Rain Bird mobile app is open. In a managed deployment, Home Assistant is the single controller and the app stays out of the loop.

The Rain Bird 2.0 app and firmware migrate controllers to the IQ4 cloud, and Home Assistant can no longer reach the device locally afterward. Keep the classic app and firmware on any controller that Home Assistant manages.
